Blue Period Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast and More (2023)

Blue Period is a coming-of-age drama manga that began publication back in 2017. Written by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, the manga series is still ongoing with 11 volumes published as of the time of writing this article. This story about the internal struggles of a high school student became so popular that it also received a 12-episode anime adaptation in 2021. But, since the anime never adapted the whole story, fans have been wondering about the second season of Blue Period.

As of January 2022, Blue Period has not been officially renewed for a second season. Still, considering that the manga is still ongoing and that the anime has adapted only a portion of the manga, combined with the fact that the show was very popular on Netflix, we see it as a likely candidate for renewal. We just don’t have any official information at this time.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of Blue Period. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this great anime series.

Blue Period Season 2 Release Date

The first season of Blue Period aired between October 2 and December 18, 2021; the show consisted of a total of eleven episodes, which adapted the first several volumes of the manga series written by Yamaguchi. Blue Period, the anime series, managed to repeat the popularity of the original manga, and although it’s not really Demon Slayer, it’s done more than enough to boost the whole series’ popularity levels.

Now, the manga has been out since 2017 and so far, eleven volumes have been published, with Yamaguchi releasing new chapters as we speak. The manga remains popular and the first season of the show certainly helped that. So, what does this mean for the future of the show?

Blue Period Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast and More (1)

As of yet, no one has said a thing about a potential second season of Blue Period, or any form of a sequel, for that matter. Blue Period, though, is a very likely candidate for renewal if you ask us – the show has been popular and there is more material to adapt – but seeing how we lack any precise information, we cannot really say anything particular except that the show is a likely candidate for renewal sometime soon.

Taking all of this into account, the second season of Blue Period is probably at least a year away, but we don’t think it will appear before 2023.

Blue Period Season 2 Trailer

After going through the basic and essential information, you have probably summarized for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of Blue Period, the reason for which is quite simple – namely, this is simply because the season has not yet even been announced, which – in turn – means that production hasn’t started yet, so there cannot even be a trailer for a potential second season.

As we have discussed, Blue Period is a likely candidate for renewal, seeing how the manga series is still ongoing with 11 volumes having been published so far, and considering the fact that the anime still has a lot of material to adapt, and how popular it was, we think we’re likely going to see a sequel, but until we get a confirmation that a second season is going to be produced, as well a confirmation that production has started, we won’t know when a trailer is going to appear.

Taking into account all of the delays, we could probably wait until early 2023 to get some info on the new season’s trailer but even that is a long shot. Just keep following Netflix for more information, as they’re pretty up-to-date with their information.

Blue Period Season 2 Plot

The plot of a potential second season of Blue Period is still a mystery. Although we do know what happens further in the manga series, as eleven volumes have been published so far, with more chapters on their way, but how the adaptation is going to approach this remains a big mystery, as we don’t have any information on it.

Namely, we don’t know how much of the now-published material the producers would adapt, nor how many episodes the second season would have. This is why we cannot really speculate about any precise details related to the plot.

The story of Blue Period follows the high school student Yatora Yaguchi is a good student and spends his evenings with his buddies in Shibuya and watching football. But he doesn’t know what to do with his life after school. Out of interest, he got involved in a task for art class and was unexpectedly praised, also by his friends.

Further contacts with the art club allow Yatora to gain more interest and eventually join the club. For the first time he develops an enthusiasm for something, sees how good the others are in the club and wants to get better. He talks to the others about which art school one could go to and learns how difficult the exams are and how strong the competition is.

Since his parents cannot afford tuition fees, Yatora can only apply for the state Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku. During the holidays he diligently does all the tasks assigned to him by the head of the club. Together with Yuka from his class, he then visits a preparatory school for the art college exams in winter, where for the first time he meets many talented young people who have the same goal as him.

Blue Period Season 2 Cast

The cast of Blue Period would probably remain mostly the same for a potential season two, mostly because we know that the majority of the main characters continue to appear later in the story, and it’s not a show that actually has a lot of characters dying or anything. We actually don’t know if we’ll see a second season of the show, or a movie sequel, perhaps, since that is also a trend nowadays, but if we do, the cast from season one will probably return (since they have returned for the movie), and it includes:

  • Hanamori Yumiri as Ayukawa Ryuuji
  • Mineta Hiromu as Yaguchi Yatora
  • Kawanishi Kengo as Hashida Haruka
  • Miyamoto Yume as Kuwana Maki
  • Yamashita Daiki as Takahashi Yotasuke

How Many Episodes Will Blue Period Season 2 Have?

This information is not known at the moment. Blue Period season one had a total of 11 episodes and knowing how modern anime function, we assume that a potential season would have roughly the same amount of episodes, meaning either 11 or 12. It is rare for modern anime to have a large(r) number of episodes, which is why we assume that this will remain on the same number.

Where to Watch Blue Period Season 2?

The first season of Blue Period premiered in Japan on JNN’s MBS and TBS networks. It was subsequently licensed and streamed on Netflix internationally, which is why we assume that the same thing is going to happen for season two. If a second season does happen, it’ll probably be broadcast in Japan before it reaches one or several streaming services.
